As a business center, Nucleus orchestrates recruitment, incentives, shared community and infrastructure services. And, true to its name, Nucleus is positioned to become the center of leading national innovation and research parks.

As an entity, Nucleus' work is integral to the development of the research park currently underway at UofL's Haymarket 30-block property in downtown Louisville. In this role, Nucleus is creating a vibrant technology business district at Haymarket along the city's Healthcare / University / Riverfront corridor.

Nucleus Welcomes New Board Members

Paul Kusserow, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Humana Inc., has joined the Nucleus Board of Advisors. At Humana, he is responsible for leading the company’s strategic planning function and its merger and acquisition and venture-capital activities. Prior to joining Humana in 2009, Kusserow was managing director of Ziegler Health Vest Fund. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and earned a master’s degree from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.


Ruth W. Brinkley, FACHE, has served as the president and CEO of KentuckyOne Health in Louisville since January 2012. The health system formed in 2012 from the merger of Saint Joseph Health System in Lexington, Ky., and Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare in Louisville and later partnered with University Hospital in Louisville and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

Ms. Brinkley also serves as the senior vice president of operations at Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives.


Craig Richard, CEcD, joined Greater Louisville Inc. in January 2013. He leads GLI, the metro chamber of commerce in attracting and expanding businesses in the Louisville region, enhancing the business climate and attracting and preparing a talented workforce to support local businesses.

Prior to GLI, he served as the Chief Economic Development Officer of the Greater Houston Parternship where he led economic development initiatives including business recruitment; business retention and expansion; international trade and foreign direct investment; research; and Opportunity Houston, a $32 million economic development marketing fund.

Nucleus Vendor List

The Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation that holds, invests and designates funds of the University.
